RIS-7702-INS Iss 2

Lighting at Stations

Synopsis

This document sets out requirements and guidance for lighting at GB mainline railway stations. It applies to new, renewed or upgraded lighting schemes in stations' public areas.

Summary Of Changes

RIS-7702-INS has been revised throughout to provide a framework for consistent station lighting system design across GB mainline stations. This revision of the standard features several topics where requirements have been created or revised, including requirements that promote:

  • Environmental sustainability and conservation of energy use;
  • Good CCTV image quality;
  • Safe conditions during temporary and emergency lighting periods;
  • Adequate lighting design for different areas of the station and station signage;
  • Good practice in lighting design calculations;
  • Consistent approach to lighting design where levels vary in adjacent areas;
  • Selection of robust and resilient lighting equipment, including columns;
  • and Glare reduction.

Lighting requirements for particular areas of the station have been made simple and clear with the removal of conflicting references.

Platform lighting requirements and guidance previously published in RIS-7016-INS were transferred to RIS-7702-INS, bringing together all station lighting requirements in one document.
