Rolling stock

One new rolling stock standard was published: 

  • GMGN2697 Issue 1Application of the Entity in Charge of Maintenance Regulations 
    This new standard explains the duties of parties involved in the maintenance of freight wagons, including ECMs, railway undertakings, and suppliers, as well as the interactions between these parties.

Three rolling stock standards were updated:

  • RIS-2700-RST Issue 3Verification of Conformity of Engineering Change to Rail Vehicles 
    Appendices on the specific needs for verification of changes involving software and cybersecurity were added to the standard. The guidance for supply chain management has also been revised.

  • GERT8073 Issue 5Application of Standard Vehicle Gauges 
    The update to this standard clarifies the application rules for standard freight gauges to reflect our latest research (T1327).

  • GMRT2173 Issue 4.1Size of Vehicles and Position of Equipment 
    Appendix C, which contained benchmark movements for freight wagon bogies has been transferred to GERT8073 issue five Application of Standard Vehicle Gauges.

One standard was amended:

  • RIS-2795-RST Issue 2.3Track to Train RFID Compatibility 
    An erroneous value in requirement 2.1.1 has been amended.

Four technical notes were published: 

  • TN2322 Issue 1Onboard passenger air quality improvement 
    This technical note informs industry about potential solutions for improving air quality in the passenger cabin.

  • TN2324 Issue 1Crashworthiness risk assessment for mainline passenger rolling stock 
    This technical note supports organisations who own, operate or maintain pre-1994 passenger rolling stock designs. It provides a common methodology for the assessment of crashworthiness risks of rolling stock.

  • TN2316 Issue 1Traction batteries in rolling stock depots
    This Technical Note contains background information on the use of lithium-ion batteries on rail vehicles, including handing, storage, maintenance, and more.

  • TN2317 Issue 1Fire compartmentation and Li-ion traction batteries
    This Technical Note contains information for industry on crashworthiness and fire barriers to minimise risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.
