In partnership with Susteer, we have developed a set of metrics to align how we assess rail organisations’ responses to climate risks. These metrics support a recommended framework for consistent reporting across the sector. They will help:

  • identify where adaptation is needed
  • track the actions being taken
  • check how well those actions perform.

The framework includes three levels to support organisations as they build capability:

  • Basic metrics – practical and ready to use now. Most organisations are expected to begin with these metrics.
  • Building-block metrics – support improving internal processes.
  • Progressive metrics – future goals that support long-term planning. More testing and industry collaboration will be done before broad adoption.

In future, organisations will also be able to submit results through the Sustainable Insights reporting tool.
