How did you get into this role?

"I started working in the policy team in RSSB in 2017. I developed a good understanding of the regulatory framework of railway standards in the UK and the work RSSB does to ensure all the different parts of rail work together well. I was working in RSSB’s rail operations team when my current role became available. I knew I was perfect for it with my previous knowledge and newly gained experience!"

"RSSB makes a unique because contribution to the industry. We help industry parties talk to each other. Our work—whether in standards, safety or research - has long term positive impacts. It's something to be proud of!"

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

"As Head of the Standards Management, Policy and Strategy team, I particularly enjoy untangling complicated issues for our members."

What are your possible career opportunities?

"I have a range of skills that I could transfer within the industry or outside it. This could be within a consultancy on policy and regulation, rail operations or sustainability."

What skills have you developed at RSSB?

"I have developed a greater breadth of knowledge of the railway. I also completed a diploma in leadership and management as part of the Emerging Leaders Programme from 2019 to 2021."

Key achievements or career highlights at RSSB?

"I have had many career highlights at RSSB with great line managers coaching me to help realise my potential. This has enabled me to participate in the Central Railway Japan Exchange Programme and the first cohort of the Emerging Leaders Programme. I have made small but significant improvements working with a Director in RSSB’s Reverse Mentoring Programme, and enjoy mentoring on the Women in Rail mentoring programme. I also won Employee of the Year award in 2019."
