Trespass and Suicide Prevention Working Group

The Trespass and Suicide Prevention Working Group (TreSP WG) is a cross-industry specialist working group that reports to the Trespass and Suicide Prevention Strategy Group (TreSP SG). Its remit is aligned with TreSP SG’s terms of reference and relevant areas set out in Leading Health and Safety on Britain’s Railway (LHSBR). The TreSP WG brings together experts in the field of trespass and suicide prevention within the rail industry.
"Having previously chaired the National Suicide Prevention Working Group since April 2020, I look forward to being part of this new cross-industry working group. Trespass, suicides, and mental health-related incidents have a huge impact on train performance and the service we provide, with many being traumatic for staff and passengers. This cannot be managed by one organisation, so a joint industry approach through multiple stakeholders is required. The TreSP WG will work collaboratively with the TreSP SG and our partners across the industry to drive down the number of incidents and the impact they have."
Scope
The railway will always be an attractive location for some malfeasant groups, as well as those who trespass meaning no harm. The TreSP WG exists to:
- receive strategic direction in the area of trespass and suicide prevention from TreSP SG
- highlight emerging issues, best practice, and champion cross-industry activity to address these
- report into TreSP SG to update on: the effectiveness of current control arrangements; progress against objectives and targets; the realisation of safety, performance, and other benefits.
- underpin trespass and suicide prevention industry activities and identify initiatives that seek to reduce the likelihood of suicides on the railway
- enhance cooperation and improve effectiveness of industry’s toolkits through active support and collaboration
- support task and finish groups in the delivery of remitted projects.
