Scope

The functions and responsibilities of the AERO GB WG are to:

  • identify and consider matters of relevance and interest to the rail industry in the field of aerodynamics (i.e. the effects of a train moving through the air) including wind and wind loading.
  • make recommendations to the standards committees on matters affecting standards, National Technical Specification Notices, National Technical Rules (NTRs), and support the development and implementation of aerodynamic requirements.
  • work with the standards committees, other groups and committees, as appropriate, and the rail industry to commission and coordinate research and development in railway aerodynamics.

Membership

The committee has members representing the following industry categories:

  • passenger train operators
  • rolling stock owners and leasing companies
  • freight and other non-passenger train operators
  • infrastructure managers and owners
  • infrastructure contractors
  • suppliers and rolling stock manufacturers
  • British Standards Institution
  • RSSB.
