Freight Technical Committee
The Freight Technical Committee (FTC) acts as a sub-committee of the Rolling Stock Standards Committee (RST SC) for the provision of expert technical advice on freight issues. It also provides a forum for stakeholders in freight vehicle management to discuss strategic, technical, operational, and safety issues related to freight vehicle maintenance.
"The FTC focuses on the rail freight industry. We consider the relationship between national and international standards and regulations affecting the freight sector, as well as technical and operational issues. We also act as a forum to support research related to the freight industry."
Scope
The purpose of the FTC is to:
- consider technical matters relating to the design, construction, maintenance, repair, interfaces, operation, knowledge, updates, and standards applicable to freight vehicles
- develop joint FTC Rail Industry Standards and Codes of Practice for freight vehicles.
The scope to include both domestic and European registered vehicles.
The group reports to the Rolling Stock Standards Committee.

The FTC has members representing these industry stakeholders:
- freight and other non-passenger train operators
- infrastructure managers and owners
- invited technical experts
- Private Wagon Federation
- RSSB.
