Scope

The DGWG:

  • Provides technical expertise for reviews and consultations of relevant industry standards, including leading working groups where this is appropriate.
  • Reviews UK legislation relating to the carriage of dangerous goods.
  • Reviews international legislation relating to the carriage of dangerous goods.
  • Provides the Department for Transport with coordinated industry responses to UN or OTIF proposals affecting the regulations for the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail.
  • Reviews operating incidents involving the carriage of dangerous goods and following up with the organisations concerned to find out what lessons have been learned.
  • Assists the infrastructure manager with updates to the Total Operations Processing System where these involve dangerous goods.

  • freight operators
  • rolling stock owners
  • Department For Transport
  • Office of Rail and Road (observers) 
  • RSSB.
