Dangerous Goods Working Group

The Dangerous Goods Working Group (DGWG) consists of cross-industry safety matter experts in the carriage of dangerous goods who provide technical expertise for the review and consultation of relevant industry standards, including UK and International legislation.
The DGWG is a forum where companies can share, review and discuss their internal standards to promote mutual understanding and support for industry through a collaborative approach. This will result in the promotion and sharing of good practice in the carriage of dangerous goods across the industry to provide a better, safer, efficient, and sustainable railway.
Scope
The DGWG:
- Provides technical expertise for reviews and consultations of relevant industry standards, including leading working groups where this is appropriate.
- Reviews UK legislation relating to the carriage of dangerous goods.
- Reviews international legislation relating to the carriage of dangerous goods.
- Provides the Department for Transport with coordinated industry responses to UN or OTIF proposals affecting the regulations for the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail.
- Reviews operating incidents involving the carriage of dangerous goods and following up with the organisations concerned to find out what lessons have been learned.
- Assists the infrastructure manager with updates to the Total Operations Processing System where these involve dangerous goods.

- rolling stock owners
- Department For Transport
- Office of Rail and Road (observers)
- RSSB.
