Evaluating Safety through Fatalities Weighted Injuries

The rail industry measures safety performance and risk using the fatalities and weighted injuries (FWI) measure. The injury categorisations and weightings used to calculate FWI changed on 21 January 2021. The main driver behind this change was to align the injury categories with the current Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013.
