A narrow escape: Don't get distracted

Driving a train is a high workload job. Being distracted by other thoughts can lead to a lack of concentration that sparks a series of potentially serious events.

This section of RED 45 reconstructs a potentially fatal incident that started with a driver stopping beyond the point where he could see the on-platform monitors. Safety-critical procedures need to be followed and, if necessary, additional measures taken to ensure a safe dispatch.

This RED programme looks at a number of issues around train driving and dispatch.  As well as the importance of maintaining concentration while driving, there’s a section (from 17:28) that looks at the issues that arise from creating longer platforms and running longer trains.
RED programme content is only available to registered Opsweb users.
