Making rail travel a practical and attractive option for all
Operations is one of the five key risk areas that the Rail Health and Safety Strategy (the Strategy) will address, it includes train operations and passenger operations.
Introduction
A key priority for rail is ensuring the safety of everyone who interacts with the railway system. This includes passengers, the public, and our workforce.
For passengers and the public incidents such as slips, trips and falls, platform-train interface, and trap and drag incidents are major sources of harm. While most workforce injuries train operator staff who move around stations, getting on and off trains and interacting with customers.
Our goal is to empower our workforce to make informed decisions that improve customers’ risk awareness throughout their entire journey.
The Strategy is aiming for ‘making rail travel a practical and attractive option for all’. The strategic initiatives to address this critical risk area are listed below.
-
Strategic initiatives:
- Create framework for comprehensive PTI Strategy.
- Undertake bowtie reviews and provide framework for risk management.
- Industry campaigns on specific Platform Train Interface risks.
- Investigation of innovative technologies to provide safe intuitive stations and onboard environments.
