Prepared for a Changing Climate

Improving resilience to extreme weather and preparing for a changing climate

Climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather conditions, which can introduce additional safety risks for rail colleagues and the public, damage assets and disrupt services. To respond and adapt effectively rail needs to collaborate and develop skills and capabilities to embed climate change considerations into their work to improve resilience.

Implementing climate change adaptation measures will enhance the rail industry’s resilience to extreme weather events. Building resilience into assets, systems, and processes across the industry will enable passengers and freight to get to their destination safely, now and in the future.
