Looking into the future of robotics in rail
Featured story

RRUKA hosted a rail robotics seminar at this week’s Robotics Innovation Show in London, to help scope a future research call.

Robotics and Autonomous Systems was identified by the UK Government in 2012 as one of the eight great technologies that support the UK industrial strategy, driving efforts to rebalance the UK economy and creating jobs and growth.  (The others are satellites, big data, energy storage, advanced materials, agri-science, regenerative medicine and synthetic biology.)

In light of this, the Rail Research UK Association (RRUKA) hosted a rail robotics seminar at the Robotics Innovation Show, which took place in London’s ExCel Centre on Tuesday 20 October 2015.

The information day gave potential bidders the opportunity to better understand the challenges.  The day included a number of presentations from TOCs, train maintainers and experts from other sectors, who explained how robotics have been successfully applied to industries such as aerospace, marine and oil and gas.
