Making sense of standards
Featured story

RSSB has revamped the standards section of it's website to support the rail industry's understanding of the need for standards and how they can help rail operators comply with the law.

Increasingly, laws governing the way railways are engineered and operated are set at European and international level. This helps to open up the market for railway products and services and to reduce costs. However, navigating the wide range of regulations, standards and guidance can be difficult and fuels the common misconception that standards increase barriers and red tape.

RSSB's Director of Research and Standards, Mark Phillips, said: Too much attention is paid to the status of standards rather than their content and how they can help railways run safely and effectively. The updated standards section of our website makes it easier to understand how standards work

The changes have been made in line with a new 'strategy for standards', which has been endorsed by the whole rail industry through RSSB's standards committees.
