RSSB’s latest research is designed to support train drivers moving from conventional to modern signalling systems.

Drivers interact with the screen in front of them, known as the Driver Machine Interface, and following user testing with drivers from both freight and passenger companies, RSSB has developed a recommended design for it.  Whether a touchscreen or soft key configuration the designs promote consistent train protection system behaviour and functionality, regardless of system supplier or train class.  Both provide savings for the rail industry by helping to reduce driver training costs and improve safety.
