RED 48 - Clear Communication

Safety critical communications are vital. When done well, it allows everyone to be on the same page, and stay safe on the railway. However, there are examples where best practice is not followed.

This issue of RED, based on a transcript from a real incident, examines how safety critical communications can go wrong.

The programme also hears from industry experts about preventing skills fade and improving fair culture.

Based on a real incident, we see how poor safety communications between a driver and a signaller lead to misunderstanding. When the driver acts on his understanding of the situation, it results in a very close call.
