Simplifying the SMIS input forms

Work is underway to simplify the SMIS input forms, thereby reducing the time needed to enter data into SMIS.

Longer-term benefits include the ability to enter safety events via a mobile device, and to export safety data from other safety management systems directly into SMIS.

Recently, RSSB’s in-house SMIS development team have been liaising with the SMIS data entry users and the SMIS Advisory Group to identify how the layout of the personal accident and injury forms can be improved. The aim is to reduce the time needed to enter these events into SMIS. This should be implemented in summer 2020 (date to be confirmed). The improved form design will remove about 75% of the existing fields.
