Vehicles and fire risk
This vehicle fire standards self-assessment has been designed for anyone who is considering making a change to a vehicle, where fire risk is a consideration. It covers the status and use of the following standards in the change process:
- GMRT2130 – Vehicle Fire, Safety and Evacuation
- BS6853:1999 – Code of Practice for fire precautions in the design and construction of passenger carrying trains
- EN 45545-2:2013 Fire precautions on Railway Vehicles-Pt2: Requirements for fire behaviour of materials/ components
- EN 16989:2018 Railway applications. Fire protection on railway vehicles. Fire behaviour test for a complete seat

Vehicle fire standards - knowledge self-assessment test
The Vehicle Fire Standards Knowledge Self-assessment Test helps you to gauge your understanding and directs you to further guidance. The self-assessment test is anonymous. RSSB will only collect personal data on your role and what part of industry you work in. We will also collect anonymous data on the test scores. This will enable us to measure which parts of the industry have used the self-assessment and to broadly gauge the level of understanding of the relevant topic. This information will allow RSSB to improve its content.
Once you have submitted your completed assessment, you will immediately receive tailored feedback for each of the questions you have attempted. This will contain information and links to further reading that will help you understand where there might be gaps in your knowledge.
