This course is designed to upskill and certify railway assessment centres staff in the RSSB train driver selection methods.
Course overview
This course is designed to upskill and certify railway assessment centres staff in the RSSB train driver selection methods. The methods include Situational Judgment Exercise (SJE), Multi-Modal Interview (MMI) and Written Communication Test (WCT).
This three-day training course is delivered both through face-to-face and remote delivery in short modules. It is followed by a one-day assessment.

Learning outcomes
- Details of the RSSB selection methods
- A step-by-step guide through the administration and scoring of each method
- Providing trainees with opportunities to practice administration and scoring so they can become familiar with the methods and demonstrate a reliable standard of administration and scoring.

Certification
- Competence in the administration of the SJE and WCT is assessed by means of exercises during the course.
- Competence in the administration and scoring of the Multi-Modal Interview is assessed at a follow-up assessment day.

Pre-requisite
Delegates should hold either:
- the British Psychological Society’s Qualification in Test Use: Ability, Occupational, or
- be able to demonstrate that they are taking steps towards obtaining this qualification.

James Lonergan, Lead Human Factors Specialist
James has an MSc in Occupational Psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society. His interests focus on individual decision-making in operations and developing practical solutions for individuals and organisations to encourage safe and reliable performance. -
Paul Leach, Head of Human Factors
Paul has a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Occupational Psychology and is a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council. Since 2008, Paul has developed and delivered training across many aspects of human factors, including leadership, safety culture, competence and psychometric assessment, incident investigation and non-technical skills. -
Priya Shah, Senior Human Factors Specialist
Priya has an MSc in Occupational Psychology and is a member of both the British Psychological Society and the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. She has over 20 years’ experience developing and delivering training in education and safety-critical settings, covering topics such as competence, risk-based training needs analysis, non-technical skills, and psychometric assessment.
