The progress we're making
We’ve launched Safe Insights
In March 2025, Safe Insights replaced the Safety Management Intelligence System (SMIS). The new system, designed in response to feedback from industry, is streamlined and AI-powered.
We’re equipping Safe Insights inputters to use the database
We’ve produced training videos and quizzes so inputters can improve their knowledge of Safe Insights.
We’re holding helpful surgeries
The first Safe Insights surgery was held on 24 June 2022, providing attendees with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the database and raise any queries they have. Sign up to Safe Insights News to receive an invitation to the next surgery.
Track our progress on delivering the strategy. View one-page activity summaries.

Membership
The group’s membership is made up of the following industry categories:
- passenger train operators
- freight and other non-passenger train operators
- infrastructure managers and owners
- suppliers and rolling stock manufacturers
- RSSB.
Who should attend?
The person who attends the group should be able to implement and influence changes to Safe Insights input and data extraction processes. For example, it could be:
- the manager of a team of Safe Insights inputters
- an experienced data analyst
- the sole Safe Insights user within an organisation.
