New Reporting Tool to streamline sustainability data

Featured story
We’ve launched a new sustainability reporting platform. It aims to streamline and improve the collection and reporting of rail sustainability data.

The Sustainable Insights Reporting Tool is used by participating rail firms to collect their sustainability data. They’ll report in detail on topics aligned to the Sustainable Rail Blueprint—industry’s green roadmap. With more and better data collected, we can generate actionable insights that benefit the whole industry and support sustainable development. This tool equips industry with the means to work collaboratively for future data review and analysis.

Thom Rawson, RSSB Sustainable Rail Principle said:

‘The Reporting Tool, developed with input from the rail industry, replaces and improves on the existing Sustainability Tool. It is designed to meet usability, functionality, and collaborative needs.

‘This reporting tool marks the initial step in the broader Sustainable Insights toolkit, which aims to provide the rail sector with actionable insights to inform sustainability strategies, decisions and actions.’

To build on this, we are developing a Data Hub in 2025-26. It will be the next component in our Sustainable Insights toolkit.

The Data Hub will use information submitted through the reporting tool and other identified sources. From this, it will enable custom data visualisation and analysis. This will help individual firms monitor and report their sustainability data. It will also inform sustainability strategies based on industry trends.
