Mental wellbeing in rail: achieving change
10/10/2024
Mental ill-health is a leading cause of sickness absence in rail and costs the industry £10.7m a year. RSSB’s Mental Wellbeing in Rail: Achieving Change project, which ran from 2022 to 2024, helped three companies implement, monitor, and measure their mental health interventions in order to improve staff wellbeing. The interventions were informed by findings from our cross-industry mental health survey in 2020.
The main report below gives a comprehensive overview of the project. It’s supported by two supplementary reports on how rail leaders and those responsible for health and wellbeing can use the project findings more widely. Meanwhile, the case studies of the companies that took part provide context to support your understanding of the challenges in implementing interventions and how to overcome them.
