Trespass and Suicide Prevention Strategy Group

The Trespass and Suicide Prevention Strategy Group (TreSP SG) is an industry body committed to reducing trespass and suicide on the UK rail network. The group provides strategic oversight of the industry’s collaborative approach to trespass and suicide prevention and ensure the safety of the public and railway staff by minimising disruption caused by trespass, theft, vandalism and suicide on the network.
Both trespass and suicide are key risk areas which demand industry’s utmost attention. It is our collective responsibility to work together to eliminate suicide and trespass incidents on Britain’s railway. Through TreSP SG, we have the opportunity to help save lives, prevent tragedies and create a safer environment for all.
Scope
The TreSP SG exists to:
- provide strategic direction on trespass and suicide reduction for the industry.
- monitor levels of trespass, suicide, theft and vandalism across the UK rail system, with the
- objective of minimising future events.
- identify and promote new forms of deterrent to those who target or misuse the railway.
- highlight emerging issues and best practice, and champion cross-industry activity to address them.
- ensure that all rail industry parties and, where necessary, outside organisations are represented.
- review changes in legislation.
- consider the implication of reports (such as those from RAIB) and prosecutions regarding trespass.
- provide confidence to passengers and freight users that the network is safe and secure.

Trespass and Suicide Prevention Working Group
The Trespass and Suicide Prevention Working Group (TreSP WG) is a cross-industry specialist working group that reports to the Trespass and Suicide Prevention Strategy Group (TreSP SG). Its remit is aligned with TreSP SG’s terms of reference and relevant areas set out in the Rail Health and Safety Strategy (RHSS). The TreSP WG brings together experts in the field of trespass and suicide prevention within the rail industry.
