When using the standard vehicle gauges, the gauge base profile in the standard needs to be adjusted to account for the dynamic movements that result from the inputs of curvature, can’t and speed in a variety of loading conditions.

For each of the applicable gauges the dynamic movement are defined and referred to as Standard Vehicle Gauge Data (SVGD). An SVGD is the maximum envelope that a vehicle conforming to a gauge is permitted to occupy. 

The SVGD is set out in Excel™ workbooks in accordance with the requirements of the rail industry standard Format for Vehicle Gauging Data (RIS-2773-RST).

The workbooks provide a series of lateral, vertical and roll movements for different cants and speeds. These movements are then used to adjust the gauge base profile coordinates in the standard. An explanation of how to use the data in the workbooks is detailed in GERT8073
