MusculoSkeletal Disorders Group
The Musculoskeletal Disorders Group (MSDG) is a specialist subgroup reporting to the Rail Wellbeing Alliance (RWA). The MSDG provides evidence based best practice and guidance to the railway industry to facilitate the prevention and management of MSDs, enabling workers to live full and productive lives throughout their entire career.
MSDG is involved in engaging with business leaders and providing guidance and best practice information on how work tasks effect employees musculoskeletal fitness. This takes into consideration the ongoing effects of past practices, present and future activities.
The MSDG recognises that employees with ‘work relevant’ musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) should be better supported through effective management of musculoskeletal health. By taking a work relevant approach, the focus shifts away from looking solely at things like job design and musculoskeletal health hazards that can be controlled in the workplace. Instead, this approach allows for reaching further and thinking about home life too, and how both need to be considered. This work relevant approach aims to enable our workforce and highlight the importance employers and employees sharing joint responsibility in managing musculoskeletal health.
