Next month we'll release several updates to rail standards. For full details and expert insights, join our Standards Quarterly Update Webinar on 9 June at 3pm. Until then, here's the overview.
Conformity of Engineering Change to Rail Vehicles
Changes have been made to clarify the role of the railway undertaking and the entity in charge of maintenance during engineering change. The standard also now covers aspects of engineering change related to cyber security and offers guidance on the identification and maintenance of safety critical components.
Application of Standard Vehicle Gauges
We have revised the W10 and W12 freight gauges to enable the optimisation of modern freight wagon designs. This update provides greater clarity on gauging tolerances and clearly defines the boundary between upper and lower sector vehicle gauges. These changes are expected to save the industry just under £5 million over the next five years.
Guidance on Entity in Charge of Maintenance Regulations
A new Guidance Note will cover the requirements of the Entity in Charge of Maintenance Regulations and ways to meet them.
