This document sets out requirements for level crossing systems and guidance on the application of controls to mitigate the risk of collision of a train with a level crossing user.

RIS-0793-CCS sets out the requirements for level crossing systems and guidance on their application. This standard is applicable to all level crossings on the mainline network and is intended to be used in conjunction with a risk assessment to inform decisions about: the application of safety and protection arrangements at a level crossing; the review of adequacy of existing safety and protection arrangements at a level crossing; and the development and application of new technologies to improve level crossing risk mitigation.

RIS-0793-CCS is intended to be read in conjunction with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) publication: Principles for Managing Level Crossing Safety.
