RSSB produces RED programmes that convey safety messages about the operational railway, often emphasising the key learning points with a dramatisation. They are used in safety briefings and training sessions across industry. Three of these RED programmes discuss fatigue and can be useful resources for educating staff on the causes and consequences of fatigue. These three programmes, which tackle different elements of fatigue, are outlined below.
RSSB’s industry fatigue survey found that 68% of the rail industry respondents had driven a road vehicle while fatigued, in the last year. RED 35 discusses the possible consequences of people driving to and from work while fatigued. The briefing guide gives advice on not driving a road vehicle while fatigued and provides thought provoking questions to discuss.
