Line Manager's Resources for Dealing with Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Rail Industry

We believe that while outside experts can help improve the mental wellbeing of rail staff, real change in the perception and management of mental wellbeing are driven by building the skills from within rail organisations.

Line managers represent the frontline of wellbeing management and act as gatekeepers to referrals or other pathways of support throughout the organisation.

That’s why we provide tools and resources for line managers to manage psychosocial workplace risks. These resources enable line mangers to create a culture that says it's okay to talk about mental health and support direct reports who are experiencing distress.

We have prepared a guide (premium access required) to improve line managers’ understanding of how mental wellbeing can be improved and maintained, for them and their team. This is available at the bottom of the screen.

Subjects include:

  1. What is Mental Wellbeing?
  2. Recruitment and Disclosure
  3. Taking care of yourself
  4. Promoting wellbeing
  5. Identifying early warning signs
  6. Signposting to Professional Support
  7. Sickness absence
  8. Return to work
  9. Ongoing mental ill-health
