Rail Industry Fatigue and Alertness Survey 2023 is launched

Featured story
Five years on from the original Rail Industry Fatigue and Alertness Survey in 2018, we are conducting another industry-wide survey so we can update our understanding of fatigue and alertness.

The survey has two aims. The first is to improve understanding about the risks of fatigue in rail and support industry to manage it more proactively. The second is to compare and contrast with the previous survey to understand changes since 2018, what initiatives are working, and where more needs to be done.

The survey is open between 25 September and 4 November 2023. We are keen to hear from people across a wide range of roles within the rail industry, including those who are not yet RSSB members.

Where we receive enough data about a specific organisation, we will aim to provide them with an organisation-specific report based on their results. If you would like your organisation to be involved in the survey please contact Anna Vereker.

The Rail Industry Fatigue and Alertness Survey 2023 will provide us with information to help make our ongoing fatigue management program as useful as possible for the industry. In addition to company-specific reports to organisations where we have gathered sufficient data, we expect to release an industry-wide report in early 2024.

The results of the previous Rail Industry Fatigue and Alertness Survey in 2018 are available to RSSB members on our website: The Rail Industry Fatigue Survey.
