Depot Working Group

14/08/2025
The Depot Working Group (DWG) brings together key stakeholders to address the challenges and opportunities within rail depots. By fostering the development and implementation of best practices, innovative solutions, and comprehensive guidelines, the group aims to enhance depot performance, streamline maintenance procedures, and strengthen overall safety. The DWG is part of a network of groups that supports the Rail Health and Safety Strategy.

'The DWG is dedicated to enhancing safety and welfare for colleagues and visitors across all depot facilities, including those run by train operating companies, Network Rail, and private train maintainers. Open to anyone actively engaged in promoting depot safety and welfare, the group is supported by RSSB and reports to the System Safety Risk Group.

Its mission is to drive improvement through a blend of analysis, collaboration, industry benchmarking, and the promotion of key projects and initiatives. The group convenes quarterly, alternating between meetings at RSSB offices and visits to various depots. These site visits foster benchmarking and shared learning. In addition to maintaining the Depot Good Practice Guide and contributing to depot-related standards, the group places strong emphasis on nurturing a positive safety culture, recognising its vital role in advancing safety standards.'
