RSSB is on the judging panel for the Memcom Excellence Awards

Professional member organisations make a distinctive contribution to society, enabling professionals with a specific focus to network, develop specialised information for their sector, and raise the profile of their work. They operate in a very wide range of sectors. While some professional membership organisations spring readily to mind, such as the Confederation of British Industry or the Royal College of Physicians, others may not, such as the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.

Although we primarily consider ourselves to be part of the railway family, RSSB is also a membership organisation. Despite operating in different sectors, many of the tasks and challenges member organisations face are similar, so they can really support and learn from each other.

In 2000, Memcom was formed to fill this gap. It’s an organisation for leaders within the membership organisation sector, offering them high quality thought leadership specifically for the sector, excellent events, and opportunities to network with their peers in the sector. Testimonials from senior executives show that Memcom enables its members to share experiences to solve problems, rather than just being a ‘talking shop’. In addition to the networking, events, and thought leadership, Memcom also holds annual ‘Excellence Awards’ that celebrate the best work member organisations are doing. These awards are in categories such as ‘Digital’, ‘Events’, ‘Engagement’, and ‘Publishing’. These categories should sound familiar to many of RSSB’s members, and its employees too.

We’re delighted to be able to support Memcom by helping judge their 2023 Excellence Awards. Our Chief Commercial Officer, Paul McLaughlin, has over 15 years’ experience across a variety of membership companies and sectors. Sharing our experience, and the benefits of our unusual membership model, will probably trigger conversations with our peers from which both we and they can benefit. They may come to see the strong benefits of employing experts to produce the IP for the industry, and we may see new ways of doing things.
