Rail body RSSB donates 200 laptops to help get kids online during lockdown
RSSB is donating 200 laptops to UK schools through the BBC’s ‘Give a laptop’ initiative.
The laptops, which previously belonged to staff but were replaced as a part of an IT upgrade will first be sent for secure recycling.
All laptops will be data wiped in line with ICO directive and in compliance with Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEER). They will then be installed with Windows 10 licenses, placed in fresh packaging before being sent onto UK schools ready to use.
RSSB expects to have the laptops delivered to chosen schools within the next couple of weeks.
The BBC scheme is already attracting similar donations from other organisations and works by linking business with relevant local charity groups such as Business2Schools.
Mark Phillips, Chief Executive of RSSB said,
“Two hundred fewer children who do not have access to the technology required to learn, will now be able to access classes and learning, and we are happy to help make that happen.
Beyond how we contribute to the GB railway through our research and work, we all have a role to do what we can to lessen the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and like many other organisations, we can do our bit to help.”
