RSSB Chief Executive, Mark Phillips, statement on the death of five rail workers in Northern Italy on 30 August:

“Our thoughts are with the families, colleagues and friends of the rail workers who died after being struck by a train near Turin last night.

All railways will treat safety as paramount, and the risks are real whether in Italy or Britain. While our analysis shows improvements in track worker safety in Britain over recent years, it remains a top priority for RSSB and is a key theme of the rail industry's health and safety strategy.

We will be working with European partners and monitoring the investigation into this accident to ensure any relevant lessons learned in Italy can be applied here too.”
