Investigation into the effects of reducing primary yaw stiffness on rolling contact fatigue generation (T537)
Previous research indicated that high wheelset primary yaw stiffness (PYS) exacerbates the onset of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) in certain situations. This project investigated whether a reduction in the yaw stiffness of two classes of rolling stock was feasible and would result in a reduction in their propensity to initiate RCF.
