Use case: Network Rail and risk groups use PIM to track train accident risk trends

Using data from the Safety Management Intelligence System (SMIS), the Precursor Indicator Model (PIM) tracks a range of accident precursors to monitor the underlying risk from train accidents. The PIM has 60 train accident precursors that are updated periodically. Forty-four of these are updated from SMIS.
