The Underload Toolbox
We now know that underload (when workload is low) can cause errors in a similar way to which overload (high mental or physical workload) can cause people to make mistakes. The underload toolbox includes practical mitigation techniques to reduce the likelihood of errors.
RSSB conducted a research project to investigate possible mitigation strategies to counter cognitive underload in train drivers. This has led to the development of practical techniques that can be implemented by the GB rail industry.
