This document details the safe use of wired and wireless remote controls for OTP, OTM and other machines in the railway environment. It was instigated following the issue of NIR 2908 which reported the uncontrolled movement of a machine when a remote control had been detached. The COP gives guidance on how to test design of the remote control and then in section 2, gives a safe working practice which we recommend should be adopted when using remote controls, including storage when not in use.
