TW5 - Preparation and movement of trains. Defective or isolated vehicles and on-train equipment.
Synopsis
The list of equipment that the driver is required to report as being defective has been amended, and a new section added to deal with defective lifeguards. A new bullet point has been added to Part A section 2.10 allowing the driver to examine a vehicle which has defective equipment if a rolling stock technician is unavailable. There is also a requirement for the signaller to tell the driver the approximate location of the defective vehicle. Requirements to deal with defective AWS, on-train data recorders and sanding equipment have been clarified to improve understanding. Also clarified is the action to be taken when a failure affects a vehicle or a whole train.
