The Working Manual for Rail Staff Handling and Carriage of Dangerous Goods is for the use of all staff concerned with the classification, acceptance, identification, marshalling, movement and loading of dangerous goods. This section has been updated to align with the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID). In addition, the Dangerous Goods Working Group (DGWG) established that it would be beneficial to make some minor changes to this section, specifically A3.1 relating to the use of the dummy UN number 8989. This amendment is not intended to change the circumstances in which UN8989 should be used, but is intended to improve the clarity of the instruction.
