This document sets out requirements for the registration, marking and numbering of rail vehicles operating on the Great Britain (GB) mainline network.

This project was established following a proposal to update GMRT2453 to consider applicable legislative changes and the launch of R2. The scope of this project also incorporates change 13-027 - Use of TSI compliant “short form” number on On-Track Machines. An amendment to this document was published on 02/06/2018 GMRT2453 could no longer be classified as a National Safety Rule following analysis based on application of the Rule Management Tool. Therefore, the new document was drafted as a Rail Industry Standard (RIS).
