RIS-2646-RST Iss 1
Axle Bearing Maintenance
Synopsis
This document sets out requirements and guidance for the maintenance of axle bearing with respect to maintenance policies, plans and competence. It also sets out requirements and guidance specifically related to axle end reassembly following ultrasonic axle testing.
Summary Of Changes
RIS-2646-RST issue 1 has absorbed much of the content from GMGN2646 issue 1 that it supersedes. It addresses the topics of maintenance policies, plans and competence management in the same sequence as the guidance note it replaces with an additional section for post-UAT axle end reassembly. Each of these sections are structured with requirements that are justified by rationales and supported by guidance on the application of the requirements and good practice. The definition of specific competence levels (1,2 and 3) has been removed. Competence is managed on a task-by-task basis and the only general differentiation is between tasks that have direct or indirect influence on the condition of axle bearings. The basic principles of competence management with respect to axle bearing maintenance are unchanged but presented in a clearer manner.
