This document sets out the requirements for the provision of cab passes and the methods of issuing and controlling them. Guidance on the suitability of staff to be provided with cab passes is included.

The intent of the RIS is to provide transport operators with the opportunity to access the benefits associated with standardisation, through the definition of a common approach to managing access to driving cabs. It will enable transport operators to improve existing controls, and it may contribute towards a reduction in the number of safety-related incidents attributed to driver distraction, for example, signals passed at danger (SPADs).
