GEGN8575 Iss 2

Guidance Note on Management of Electrical Risk Related to Operational Tasks on Electrified Lines

Synopsis

This document provides railway undertakings and infrastructure managers (station operators) with guidance on the management and assessment of electrical risk arising from exposed live parts when undertaking day-to-day operational tasks on ac and dc electrified lines.

Summary Of Changes

GEGN8575 issue two is a revision based on industry feedback. These refinements are aimed at enhancing clarity and better supporting the assessment and management of electrical risk on electrified lines whilst maintaining the approach set out in issue one, which is based on zonal approach. Changes also include a small number of additional definitions and updates to reference the latest standards to better support duty holders.

GEGN8575 issue two improves clarity whilst continuing to assist organisations, particularly those who currently do not undertake operational tasks on electrified lines, in developing a proportionate, suitable and sufficient electrical risk assessment. The improved clarity continues to provide a consistent approach to avoid unnecessarily complex analysis being undertaken, excessive resources being committed, and the incursion of unwarranted costs.
