GERT8000-G1 Iss 10

General safety responsibilities and personal track safety for non-track workers

Synopsis

You will need this module if you carry out the duties of:
• a train driver
• a guard
• a shunter
• a designated person (DP)
• a signaller
• a crossing keeper
• platform staff.

Summary Of Changes

Section 1.1 has been revised to include what to take into consideration when adopting an alternative rule or arrangement.

Section 4.4 on ‘Reporting a dangerous goods incident’ has been reworded to remove ambiguity.

Sections 5.3 and 5.6 have been revised to remove gender-specific language; the term ‘pilotman’ has been replaced by ‘pilot’. These changes have been published in the Periodical Operating Notice (PON) since December 2022.

The definition of ‘the lineside’ in section 6 has been changed to refer to the ‘boundary’ rather than ‘boundary fence’ as there is not always a fence.

Section 8.1 on ‘Limited clearance signs’ has been revised as it is not correct to state that no-one must enter or stand at the location when a train is approaching. The risk applies throughout the time that any trains are running and the wording has been changed to state that this is the meaning of the sign.

The changes form part of the suite of general updates issued annually which are intended to improve understanding and application of the content of the Rule Book and provide opportunities for duty holders to operate more efficiently.
