GERT8000-HB10 Iss 5
Duties of the COSS and person in charge when using a hand trolley
Synopsis
Summary Of Changes
Recommendation 3 from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) investigation into a train striking a trolley left on the line at Challow highlighted that the lack of visibility of trolleys had been a contributory factor. The previous issue of GERT8000-HB10 imposed the use of a red flag or light, but a red flag was considered to be inadequate. An amendment has been added at section 3 that hand trolleys are required to display a red light in both directions at all times when on the track and that all existing reference to a red flag be removed.
Obsolete references to Safe Work Leader have been removed throughout and changes have been added at section 1 to explain the meaning of the term ‘person in charge of the trolley’ and to make reference to a trolley not stopping within two metres of an axle counter head.
