You will need this handbook if you carry out the duties of the machine controller (MC) and on-track plant operator.

Sections one, six, seven and eleven have been revised to remove obsolete references to safe work leader (SWL).

In section 10.1, an explanation has been provided that the necessary clearance between an item of on-track plant (OTP) and an open line will be defined in company instructions when working adjacent to an open line. In the same section, an incorrect cross-reference has been replaced by a more relevant correct one.

Section 10.2, ‘Protecting other lines’ has been revised to incorporate the content of section 10.3 from issue six ‘Approved alternative method of working’ to improve clarity.

Section 10.4, ‘When work is to be carried out on OTP’ has been renumbered as 10.3 as a consequence of merging sections 10.2 and 10.3 from issue six. The same section has been revised to remove obsolete references to safe work leader.

The changes form part of the suite of general updates issued annually which are intended to improve understanding and application of the content of the Rule Book and provide opportunities for duty holders to operate more efficiently.
