AC Electrified Lines
Synopsis
This handbook is for those personnel who need to go on the operational railway in an AC electrified area to carry out their duties, with the exception of a:
- train driver
- guard
- shunter
- signaller
- crossing keeper
- designated person (DP).
The personnel listed above will not receive this handbook but will get Rule Book module AC ‘AC electrified lines’.
Summary Of Changes
The Handbook has been revised throughout to remove references to the obsolete competency of Safe Work Leader.
Section 3.4 has been revised to make it clear that this refers to a balise that would prevent automatic power changeover (APCo) taking place automatically, and not to the ‘zero balise’ which lowers the pantograph if it has not already been lowered.
Section 10 on coasting under the overhead line equipment (OLE) has been revised to update the two signs depicted to temporary power changeover (PCO) signs. References in the same section to bi-mode trains have been updated to multi-mode trains.
The changes form part of a suite of standards changes relating to the introduction of new permanent and temporary power changeover signs applicable to multimode trains. It is anticipated that this suite of changes will make some contribution to reducing the number of failed changeovers.
