GERT8000-HB5 Iss 3
Handsignalling duties
Synopsis
Summary Of Changes
Single line working rules for trains in the wrong direction have been updated in line with the industry move to reduce detonator use. An ‘end of degraded working’ sign now replaces the handsignaller at the exit of the single line section. A signaller's agent will be positioned to observe the sign and any trains passing it. The signaller’s agent must act if a train passes the sign without authority. There is no longer a requirement to place a detonator on the rails at this location. Handsignallers remain necessary when dividing a single line working section and are now referred to as ‘intermediate handsignallers’.
Following the introduction of extended block working, temporary block working has been removed from GERT8000-S5. Consequently, all references to temporary block working have been removed from this document.
