Possession of a running line for engineering work

Summary Of Changes
Section 8.5 ‘First train over the affected portion of line’, in relation to resumption of normal working, has been changed at sub-section b) so that a second train can follow the first train when an automatic signal has been replaced to danger, and the prohibition on allowing this where there is an intermediate block home signal, which was in sub-section d), has been removed.
Section 9.6, sub-section b) on ‘Passing a signal or block marker within the possession’ has been amended to state that the authority to pass a signal or block marker can be given by a competent person on behalf of the person in charge of the possession (PICOP) or engineering supervisor (ES). This instruction has been shown in GERT8000-HB11 and GERT8000-HB12, but the absence of a balancing instruction to the driver has meant that this has not been apparent to a driver.
The changes form part of the suite of general updates issued annually which are intended to improve understanding and application of the content of the Rule Book and provide opportunities for duty holders to operate more efficiently.
